Criterion’s Dr. J. Greg Hanson to Speak at the Government Big Data Forum

Dr. J. Greg Hanson, Criterion Systems’ Chief Operating Officer (COO), is speaking at the Government Big Data Forum 2011. Dr. Hanson will participate in the panel, ‘Sensemaking in an Age of Overwhelming Data’ scheduled for Wednesday, January 26th at 1:00 p.m. at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C.

He will join government and industry executives to discuss the steps federal agencies should take to rapidly make sense of increasing amounts of data, leading to better government-wide decision-making.

Dr. Hanson brings a unique perspective to these challenges garnered from his experience at the Senate and his tenures with the Air Force, NATO and industry. While at Criterion, he was instrumental in developing the approach – currently used in intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) programs – that integrates fusion and analysis applications on a miniature, high performance computer to provide near-real-time processing of multiple data streams from individual sensors.

To help organizations deal with the challenges resulting from the exponential growth in the amount of ISR data captured, Dr. Hanson’s team is delivering a multi-petabyte storage solution that delivers the economics of public cloud storage behind the firewall.

Prior to joining Criterion, Dr. Hanson served as CIO for the U.S. Senate where he was responsible for the technology vision and strategy. He also held CTO positions at Universal Systems & Technology (UNITECH) and Telos Corporation, a $200M international technology company serving private and government markets. As Chief Software Engineer for the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Hanson developed global software policies and led the agency’s Y2K program. He also served as Chief Scientist at NATO’s Central Region Headquarters. Dr. Hanson earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Central Florida, a master’s of science degree in information systems from the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology, and a bachelor of science from the U.S. Air Force Academy. He is also an adjunct full professor, teaching graduate computer science courses for the University of Maryland University College.

The Government Big Data Forum will take place January 26, 2011 at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C.
